Cosumnes River Preserve Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteer Naturalist Training

Come learn about the Cosumnes River Preserve.

Our comprehensive volunteer naturalist training provides interested community members an excellent opportunity to learn about native plants, animals, natural communities and local cultural history.  Trained volunteer naturalists lead nature walks and/or staff the Cosumnes River Preserve Visitor Center.  This years fall training will begin in October, it is held on Wednesday evenings in October through mid-November, as well as 3 Saturday training dates. If you are interested, or would like more information, please let us know so that we can get you registered.

For more information, contact Jeff, Outreach Coordinator, at rhoadesj@saccounty.net or 916 683-1700.

Habitat Restoration Team (HRT)

The Cosumnes River Preserve's Habitat Restoration Team (HRT) is a volunteer group that is dedicated to the restoration and conservation of habitat within the Preserve. These generous volunteers assist Preserve staff in every aspect of stewardship from restoring and managing riparian forests, to cleaning up after major flood events.

HRT includes volunteers from all walks of life with a variety of different skills. Some are one-time volunteers who come out to help for just one day. Others have come to nearly every workday for years - some for over 15 years!

If you are interested in seeing parts of the Preserve not open to the general public, or if you want to learn more about the Preserve's various habitats, we need your help. There are no pre-requisites for becoming a HRT member, except to be prepared to get dirty, work hard and have a lot of fun!

HRT Volunteer Workdays are twice a month (schedule). So, pack a lunch, put on your work clothes (long pants, long sleeved shirt, work boots and rain clothes) and come on out.

For more information, contact Alex Cabrera, Site Coordinator, at acabrera@tnc.org or 916 622-2353.
